It’s now a year since the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into force in the UK and whilst the initial panic in the lead up to the deadline (May 2018) has subsided, this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t still be worrying about the implications of GDPR for your business. Recent research suggests 30% of business across the EU don’t think they’re not compliant, and whilst we can do as much as possible to ensure we meet the requirements of the GDPR, total compliance is probably unlikely for the majority of businesses. And with the regulators only just starting to enforce the GDPR we are still learning how to interpret certain aspects of the GDPR principles and lawfulness of processing. No matter where you are in your GDPR journey, don’t think compliance was all about May 2018 and nothing further is required. GDPR compliance is an ongoing state which applies at all times and in fact, the regulations stipulate that it’s up to you to demonstrate you’re compliant now, were compliant in the past and are continuing to be compliant into the future.
So, join us for a free GDPR refresh with local GDPR expert and Dorset Chamber member, Mark Gracey (Flavourfy Digital & Digital Compliance Hub) to update your understanding of what GDPR compliance means in practice. Mark will be covering a reminder of the basics of data protection (e.g. the principles and lawful basis for processing) as well as covering what you need to know when it comes to basic compliance, and what you can do to ensure your compliance continues into the future.
